There is no shortage of assisted living communities in southwest Florida. However, many individuals and families are unwilling or dread a move to assisted living. According to AARP 9 in 10 individuals wish to age in place. Unfortunately, that is not always possible, especially when someone is not receiving the proper care or they are unsafe within their own home.
Trust us when we say we would love to see everyone age in place, but it’s simply not possible. For that reason we have curated a list of assisted living facilities in our area. Southwest Florida is flooded with various options, which is why we recommend our friends at Care Patrol or Senior Housing Solutions to help you find the right place to call home.
What is Assisted Living?
Put simply, assisted living is just what is sounds like. Residents within assisted living facilities will receive assistance with activities of daily living. Activities of daily living include bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, eating, and continence. Should you or a loved one need assistance with any of the ADLs, assisted living may be right for you. Assisted living also offers various on-site amenities and events such as outings, fitness classes, and so much more.
What is the Alternative?
Those who wish to avoid a move to assisted living here in southwest Florida have alternatives. The most common is hiring a private duty care agency to come into your home. Home care agencies meet with you and your loved one to understand your needs and match you with a caregiver or a team of caregivers that best suits the situation. Often times home care agencies will take into account personality to create an even better match making process. Many home care agencies require a minimum number of hours per week. That is, caregivers are typically hired for 4, 8 or 12 hours shifts depending on the level of care needed. Similar to assisted living communities, there are numerous home care agencies in southwest Florida.
